"As a group, we all felt so pleased with the trip. It was perfect! I can't remember the last time I felt so relaxed. The food was excellent. Peru has it all: mountains, beaches, jungles, culture, history, and more."

Active South America Overall Score: 88.90

Most of Active South America's trips hit the highlights of an entire country, and the rest focus on just one region. In Chile and Argentina, it's Patagonia. In Peru, it's Titicaca, Cusco, Machu Picchu, and the Amazon. But all are active, with cycling, hiking, and sea kayaking or whitewater rafting on every trip. On its innovative Machu Picchu itinerary, clients bike through the Sacred Valley, hike the Inca Trail, climb Huayna Picchu mountain (which looms almost 1,000 feet above Machu Picchu), and paddle Lake Titicaca.

South America Family trip in Peru Exploring Peru With My New Family
by Jenny Hartshorne, GoNomad.com - July 2008

Since I've been back from my seven-day vacation in Peru, friends ask me, "Hey what have you been up to this summer?" I love saying I went to Peru... There's a bit of mystery to it. Not the same as "Went down to the shore for a week."

I say "Well, I was in Peru, went to the Amazon Rainforest and stayed in a cool jungle camp with thatched huts and hammocks in front, macaws and parrots flying free, tarantulas in the trees nearby. The jungle was full of boas, anaconda, monkeys and of course lizards of all sizes."

I organized the trip with my new blended family by signing up with ACTIVE SOUTH AMERICA, a really first-rate tour company. Since there were only five of us we were matched with another family of our size. You can also bring ten people and create your own group.

South America Galapagos Adventure tour Swimming With The Sea Lions
by Bernie Lovejoy, San Antonio Express Website - July 2007

GALÁPAGOS ISLANDS, Ecuador - Would you like to swim with sea lions? Sounds interesting. But what if I added, "And the sea lions will swim with you!" This was exactly our experience when my wife, Francoise, and I tried an adventure (not a vacation) in the Galápagos Islands. It began with sea lion babies checking us out while teething on the mooring lines of our boat and went on to lengthy water ballets with playful "teenagers" joining divers and snorkelers in dives, twists and pirouettes in crystal-clear water. After a week full of challenges and thrills, we still had no trouble choosing this as the high point of our trip.

South America Costa Rica tour Finding the Real Gold in Costa Rica
by Linda Ballou, Real Travel Adventures International Magazine - May 2007

After nine days of non-stop fun on a multi-sport adventure with ACTIVE SOUTH AMERICA in Costa Rica, floating belly-up in a secluded cove at Playa Coyote gave me a chance to savor the journey. A morning swim in placid waters beneath pastel pink heavens soothed muscles put to tests that included mountain biking, white water rafting, pony trekking, hiking in rain forests, kayaking across blue-green depths to a picnic on a palm-studded island, and a night patrol with turtle conservationists along a strand of deserted beach. These were just a few of the high points of this holiday designed for those who want to breathe deeply of the landscape.
