ACTIVE NEW ZEALAND adventure travel guide
Sebastian Hansen
"Sebastian rates a 10! I can't imagine that he could have done more to insure a fun and satisfying trip for all involved. He kept us well informed about necessary details, was knowledgeable about the areas we visited, and maintained a good sense of humor. Sebastian is a good listener and doesn't show off or require particular attention. He always seemd to be one step ahead so there were no snafus along the way. He is a huge asset to Active SA."

South American Wedding Bells
By Rebecca Garvoille

Mike and I got married during our vacation in Peru. It was a complete but wonderful surprise for me. Before our trip, Mike arranged with our travel company, ACTIVE SOUTH AMERICA, for us to get married on Amantani Island on Lake Titicaca in the islanders' local tradition. Mike also managed to buy my ring and have it delivered to a friend's house unbeknowst to me before we departed. The first I learned of any of this was as Mike proposed to me at one of the Incan ruins outside of Cuzco during our trip! Read more...

"Overall ACTIVE SOUTH AMERICA was a great trip and I would be willing to recommend it to anyone capable of a vigorous itinerary. For the money, it was the best deal that we found for what we wanted to do."

Custom Tour & Special Interest Travel

We can help whether you're planning a destination wedding, a custom tour for a group, a family adventure vacation, or want to explore a special interest abroad

We run all of our own trips in South America – you’re not talking to the middle man – so our expertise and local contacts mean that we can tailor any of our trips to suit you or create a custom tour from scratch. Even on the regular trips you’d be surprised how flexible it can be travelling with a small group. You’re welcome to join in on the activities on the itinerary or your guide can provide plenty of other options. If you have a special interest you’d like to explore abroad – whether it’s fly fishing, basket weaving or lepidoptery – just let us know and we’ll find a way to make it happen.

Family travel: Where you'll work up a sweat without sweating the small stuff

Want to share the outdoors with your kids but a family adventure vacation doesn't sound like much of a vacation for the grown ups? We hear you. Travel is an adventure with kids, full stop - it's very different to travelling on your own or with other adults. So we've created our family adventure vacations a bit different to our regular adventure trips to make it fun for the whole family, including mum.
Costa Rica Fauna
We take the hard work out of family vacations - whipping up healthy meals, booking family-friendly accommodation, organising fun outdoor activities that everyone can enjoy, getting from A to B, etc. That just leaves you to relax, enjoy family time and have an adventure with your kids.

As with all of our trips, we're all about a genuine experience that isn't your typical touristy stuff and send you home with memories both you and your children will talk about for years to come. Your only worry will be how to top this family vacation next year!

Destination Weddings and Honeymoons

A few years ago, Jeremy and Sandy challenged us to plan a destination wedding as unique as they are. We arranged a shaman to marry them at Machu Picchu during their Jaguar trip - a moment they, or anyone on their trip, will never forget!

adventure wedding at Machu Picchu"ACTIVE SOUTH AMERICA's Jaguar trip vastly exceeded our expectations. The trip was wild, varied and challenging. We saw a significant portion of Peru and were able to do some things we had only been dreaming about before the trip. Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca are definitely fantastic highlights that bookend this trip, but the cycling, dancing, ruins and jungle touring cannot be forgotten. Top to bottom, this trip was fantastic and we could not be more pleased that we opted to make this trip
our wedding and honeymoon."

Single Travel

Travelling solo? No problem - you won't be alone. We don't run 'singles trips' per se, but lots of our clients travel alone. In fact, about a quarter might otherwise be too intimidated to venture into the outdoors on a solo vacation or would be stuck on one of those singles cruises. Instead they're hanging out with like-minded travellers, enjoying the camaraderie of a small group, getting as much or as little alone time as they like, and have the safety of an experienced guide working out all those pesky logistical details that can be tricky when you're travelling alone in a foreign country.

Unlike many other tour operators, we don't believe in charging you extra for travelling alone. So there's no forced single supplement if you don't mind sharing a room or you might even get a room to yourself sometimes.
